Most vehicles have a car battery indicator system which will light on on the dashboard when your car battery is discharging because your car's alternator isn't generating enough electricity for the battery.

This is a serious problem because what the car battery indicator is trying to tell is that the vehicle is running on whatever power that is left inside the battery because there's not charging process going on as a result of the faulty alternator. What you need to do at this stage is to shut down everything that is sucking up the power inside the battery and head to nearest auto repair center immediately before the car die.

Do not switch off your engine at stop lights because doing so will only drain more power from the battery. Starting the engine requires a lot of power so it is better that you shut down the headlights or other unnecessary accessories so that you will have more time to reach the mechanic before you end up getting stuck on the side of the road with a dead car battery.

In short, car batteries have a tendency to die without notice; in extreme bad weather conditions, they can go down just like that when you least expect it.
